Great Sled Dale Hurricane Crash Site Walk

  • Keld Resource Centre Keld Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL11 6LJ (map)

On 12 June 1942 a Hawker Hurricane crashed in Great Sleddale en route to Silloth, killing its pilot, Alexander Ronald Leslie-Melville. Great Sleddale, largely abandoned for over 50 years, is quite inaccessible and the crash site is hard to find, so join us on this trek to locate it. We will also visit a lead mine, copper mine and a field enclosure on a grand scale.

The walk starts and finishes at the Ravenseat turnoff from the B6270 west of Keld
